Introduction

Being a millennial, I am a fan of most twenty-first century designers, but I have also always had a great fascination with fashion from the sixties, as well as the eighties. Two eras with completely different, yet unique cultural and revolutionary influences. I find that these three eras have been the most influential for my personal style, which is why I have chosen to write my project on Alexander McQueen, Jason Wu, Marc Jacobs, Geoffrey Beene, and Ossie Clark. I decided I would choose multiple designers from several decades to compare styles, and analyze the zeitgeist, and cultural influences that might have made an impact on each designers creations.

Since I received the information for the project, I knew right away Alexander McQueen was at the top of my list. I feel Alexander McQueen has brought a fresh, unique, new style to todays fashion. I feel he has made a great impact on todays fashion, which is why I felt that he would be an essential part of my project. On the other hand, I also believe Jason Wu holds great historical importance, especially after having designed clothes for Michelle Obama, the wife of the first African American President of the United States, Barack Obama.

As for the era of the eighties, I chose to do research on Marc Jacobs simply because he is one of the most popular and known designers up until present day. Not only is he well known for his designs, but he has also created an extremely successful diffusion line as well.

Lastly, I decided to research Ossie Clark and Geoffrey Beene, both designers from the sixties. Both designers which I have never heard of before, but from a time period which has always been so compelling to me. I found that it would be interesting to learn about two other designers that I had never heard of in order to expand my own ideas more, and learn more about the influences in that revolutionary time period.

In conclusion, I am very excited to begin working on my project. I am looking forward to learning and seeing how diverse the fashion industry is and has been in the past and how each designer is unique and no one designer is less than the other, yet they are all different and have had different a impact on what fashion is today.
